Where it is and what the city is like

Jaraguá do Sul is in northern Santa Catarina, in the Itapocu Valley, about 180 km from Florianópolis and about 50 km from Joinville. It is an industrial city, settled by German, Italian and Hungarian immigrants. It had 182,660 residents in the 2022 Census, and IBGE (Brazil’s national statistics agency) estimates 203,204 in 2026.

GDP per capita was US$ 17,000 (R$ 84,907) in 2023, well above Florianópolis (US$ 11,000 (R$ 58,059)). Industry is the backbone: motors, textiles and food.

The city’s Procon (consumer protection agency) added up the lowest price of each item and arrived at a minimum basket of US$ 58.78 (R$ 298.78) in April 2026.
